Strategic Directions/Priorities

The new ALA Strategic Directions plan is a bold and asiprational document that charts a vibrant future for the association in pursuit of its mission “to provide leadership for the development, promotion, and improvement of library and information services and the profession of librarianship in order to enhance learning and ensure access to information for all.”

Each of the Strategic Directions – Advocacy, Information Policy, and Professional and Leadership Development – serves to bring together a range of goals and strategies. Taken as a whole, along with the Key Action Areas, they create an overarching framework that enables ALA members and staff to work together in order to develop the library and information services and resources that our communities need.

The leadership role of the ALA President is one of service – to the association and its members. As President, I will work tirelessly to advocate for libraries and library workers and to represent the association. Building on the ALA Strategic Directions, I will be a voice for our values and value.
